Description
CHURCH: 1808, incorporating some fabric of earlier church;
additions and alterations, A Marshall Mackenzie, Aberdeen,
1876. Harled, tooled granite margins and dressings; later
dressings of tooled ashlar sandstone.
Simple rectangular building with 4 symmetrical round-headed
windows in S elevation (incorporating masonry from N wall of
earlier church); 3 hooks for former shutter hinges to window
margins; geometric glazing (1876). Round-headed doorway in E
gable with lattice-pane glazing to fanlight; later rose
window above.
1876 gabled entrance porch and 3 pointed-headed hoodmoulded
windows in main N elevation. Also single storey, 2-bay
Minister's room at W gable, with shouldered lintel to doorway
and simple bipartite with lattice-pane glazing. Slate roofs.
INTERIOR: plain re-cast interior; pine plank dado and pews;
gallery at E; carved backboard behind communion table.
Fielded panel door re-used in passage cupboard (1808 or
earlier).
BURIAL GROUND: coped rubble walled burial ground; 18th, 19th
and 20th century tombstones, many of the earlier memorials of
finely inscribed local slate.
Pair simple square granite gatepiers with shaped caps. Pair
cast-iron gates.
